SERVING CHILDREN IN JESUS’ NAME
In this photo, a volunteer from the United States uses his skills as a psychologist to play with this 4-year-old boy while assessing his mental development. Little Hands, Big Hearts serves special-needs children and their families and shares the light of Jesus Christ with villagers near Trujillo, Honduras.
Short-term mission teams working with Little Hands, Big Hearts spend their time in construction efforts, teaching children about God, sharing food with impoverished families, and encouraging the local people to follow Jesus Christ. They also benefit themselves by learning from the faith of Christians in a third-world country, experiencing a new culture, putting their faith into practice, and building new friendships.
LHBH AND SUMMIT VIEW
In January 2007, our congregation became the sponsoring church for Little Hands, Big Hearts (Manos Chicas, Corazones Grandes in Spanish). This ministry has operated in Honduras for several years now, first under the direction of the Westside Church of Christ near Portland, Oregon. Hundreds of short-term missionaries have traveled to Honduras to work with this effort to ease the burden of impoverished families by providing food for undernourished children, teaching families how to care for disabled children, and serving as ambassadors for the churches there in Honduras.
Our elders provide the spiritual oversight and accountability for this ministry. The congregation provides some of the funding to support this mission and some of the volunteer man-power needed to help raise funds for LHBH, send vitamins and other supplies to needy families, and provide workers for short-term missions. Mark and Brenda Young, founders of this ministry, continue to serve as its stateside directors and frequent missionaries.
